What happens at the home lifestyle photoshoot

At home lifestyle/documentary family or newborn sessions are about the family's real connection and love for each other

Have you ever wondered what happens at the home lifestyle photoshoot? Look no further - have a read below and contact me if you have any further questions.

I am the Enfield family Photographer,
happy to travel across London
and further afield.

Family photography sessions are a lovely way to create and capture natural and real memories in the comfort your own home. Capturing your family as it grows has a real meaning and the photos are perfect reminder of  a life as you now it. And in years to come – of a life as you knew it.

Have you ever wondered what happens at the home lifestyle photoshoot? Look no further – have a read and contact me if you have further questions.

What happens at my session?

Once you book, I will send you an important questionnaire, to help me find out about your family, your home, your pets, what you do in  your spare time, your like’s and dislike’s. Then we decide what rooms I am going to photograph in. Most of the time I use the sitting room, your bedroom, baby room, kitchen and garden if you have one. It is totally up to you. Or we can decide on the day, based on the light quality.

How do I prepare for the session?

It is your home and that is how you need to remember it. I would advise to remove anything you wouldn’t want to see in your photographs but I am happy to advise and help you on the day of the photoshoot with bits and pieces. I might fully open the curtains to let the light in or with your permission push small furniture around to create space. Important thing is to capture you as a family.

Be aware – different emotions will come out during the photoshoot – laughter, love, excitement but also tears, strops, and naughty steps at times! All these emotions are part of what your family goes through on everyday basis –  (I know it only too well, I am a parent to a two and five year olds) and all this is suddenly not going to stop just before I come. So please RELAX and enjoy every minute of the photoshoot. ( Don’t tell anyone, but the stroppy bits are my favourite to photograph – they are the ones that will make you laugh out loud in years to come). Ultimately, there are no expectations on the day – but to have fun. No family is perfect – ultimately what is perfection?

What to wear?

Wear something you are going to feel comfortable in. I recommend simple neutral and light tones (creams, whites, grays, pastels) or you can add a pop of colour. I discourage from wearing very strong colours and logos as they tend to take away from looking at your face or your baby/children face – but once again, it is totally up to you. Have a look at my Pinterest Moodboard for some ideas on what to wear.

If you have a newborn, I would recommend a nappy and a simply white vest and white onsie. Strong colours and patters hide the baby, the same as too much of fabric. We all love the cute shots of baby’s feet, fingers, tiny toes – they are small only for a short period of time. I am happy to try to swaddle your newborn in a white/natural colour muslin swaddle (not every baby likes this and I will always follow your baby’s lead) or have a few shots of baby just in a nappy to fully show of their (tiny) size. I usually  photograph your baby in his/her cot or laying on your bed – in a relaxed lifestyle unposed way.

Who gets photographed?

I photograph everyone. If you have a newborn, your baby will be photographed on their own, but I will include sibling shots, parents shots and of course family shots. Some will be posed (as much the baby or children feel up for it), many will be unposed, capturing the moment in time. I will photograph children on their own, in their rooms, garden – in their natural environment.   I aim to capture everyone as an individual and then as a part of the family.

How long are the sessions?

A typical newborn/family sessions is around 1.5-2 hours long. I am happy to stay around for much longer (there is an additional charge) if you have a family coming around or if you would like to be photographed watching your older son’s football game or you daughter’s ballet practice (you would need to get a written permission from the teachers to do this). Everything is possible, just ask.

Your photos

You will receive your photos within 2 weeks of the photoshoot (this might be 3 weeks during the busy periods but will advise in advance). I am happy to provide you with a wall art of your choice. I am completely passionate about prints and albums – don’t get me started! The technology is constantly changing, the currently popular USB’s might not work in 20 years time – but the old fashion paper print/album will sit on your shelf for many many years to come. I do generally advise my clients to see me on yearly basis and recommend albums – as you can see the real growth and difference, especially when you look at your children.

So what now?

I would recommend that you do not hesitate and book with me now. Yes, your hair might grow longer in next 6 months, you might be a bit slimmer (and maybe not), but your baby or child will be 6 months older, in a completely different development stage – with no way of returning back.
